The Next Level East Side Access Photographs by Hiroyuki Suzuki

The New York Transit Museum Gallery Annex and Store Grand Central Terminal

23 July~27 October 2013

My gratitude for the disaster assistant from the United States after The Tohoku earthquake led me to visit to New York City. At that time, there was a talk of taking photograph of underground of Grand Central Station. Unusual and wild underground construction site always with danger led me met many fortuitous objects.

I had photo shooting four times since I started from July 2011. And, I was always surprised to see various scenes under the process of construction.

Scenes evolved concretely.

A huge hole in the wall of solid rock after mining changed to a hole having the steel props at my second visit. At my third visit, it changed to the hole hardened with concrete. Finally, it changed to the escalator at the subway of New York City.Shooting the photograph of evolutionary process in the limited time is the work to put the scene of encounter and surprise into my original composition. This year 2013 is the 100th Anniversary of Grand Central Station at a timely manner.

I would like to express my best gratitude to all the parties concerned and the people, through photo exhibition “The Next level” and photograph of underground constructionwhich is for next hundred years.

And, I would like to express my best gratitude for Operation Tomodachi, relief effort led by the US Forces after the Tohoku earthquake.
